POPE BENEDICT XVI RETIRES April 19th 2005 saw the election of Germany’s Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger as Pope Benedict XVI, the 265th Pope of the Holy Catholic Church.
Hermann Coburg of Germany created a special bear to mark this historic occasion and has also created a Papal Series of beautiful and highly collectable bears marking many of the high points in the Pope’s time as head of the Church.
With the announcement that Pope Benedict is to retire on the 1st of March 2013 these bears will now become a part of a very rich history and join the realm of other highly sought after collectable bears.
This very special final bear in the series, created to mark his retirement is a 40cm mohair growler bear with excelsior filling. His footpads are embroidered with the dates of his reign as the 265th Pope and the coat of arms of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger which was his name before becoming the Pope. This edition like the very first bear in this series is limited to 265 pieces worldwide which is the number of Popes to date.
