His paw pads are made from pineapple leather and are perforated to allow you to see the wood wool filling inside.

He wears a polished stainless steel chest tag with the original company logo of 1897.
He bears the iconic Steiff gold-plated button-in-ear.

Teddys For Tomorrow
Steiff’s new innovative series, Teddys For Tomorrow, focuses on sustainability and the conservation of our environment and resources. Each limited edition is made from non-animal, eco-friendly materials such as hemp, linen, bamboo viscose, recycled polyester fibers, pineapple leather, violas, imitation leather and stuffing made from sustainable materials or wood wool. Each white tag edition proudly wears a special metal chest tag that displays Steiff’s iconic elephant motif; the very first company logo from 1897.

The History Of Paper Plush

At the end of World War I, Steiff was faced with a lack of mohair, wool and similar plush materials. Always innovative, the company found ways to produce bears and animals with a substitute paper-based material from 1919 through 1921 — until traditional Teddy bear materials were again available.

Nearly 90 years later, after extensive research and development, Steiff rediscovered the technology to produce paper plush — a manufacturing technique that had been forgotten over time. This plush made a comeback in 2010 with a special replica exclusively for Steiff Club members.

Since that time, it has been used for a number of limited editions. Paper plush is not like mohair plush in look or feel. It has a unique appearance and texture since it is woven from paper strands and not woolen threads.
